The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Karbala organized its first annual festival commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), with wide participation from the college’s students and faculty.
The festival was attended by the university president, Professor Sabah Wajid Ali, his assistants for administrative and academic affairs, Dr. Jassim Al-Maamouri and Dr. Haider Mohammed, and several deans from other colleges, in addition to the dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, its faculty, and students.
Through speeches and cultural and intellectual presentations, the participants highlighted the noble human values embodied by Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) and his historical role in establishing the principles of justice and equity and upholding human dignity.
In his address during the festival, the university president stated, “The nation has lost in Ali (peace be upon him) a man and a pillar of justice, and a beacon of guidance.” Wajid added, “In our time, we see men following the path of Ali (peace be upon him), raising their voices against oppressors and affirming that Ali’s path is the path of honor and dignity. They have made the cause of the nation and resistance against arrogance a steadfast and unwavering motto.”
For his part, the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Dr. Muhammad al-Ta’i, delivered a speech in which he discussed Imam Ali (peace be upon him) as a companion, a human being, and an imam. He pointed out that “commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Ali represents an important intellectual and educational milestone for reinforcing the human values he embodied in his life.”
This festival is part of a series of cultural and intellectual activities organized by the college to enhance students’ cultural and religious awareness and connect them to the civilizational and intellectual heritage of Islam.
