A scientific study entitled histochemical expression of protein (cyclin D1) in prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia in a sample of Iraqi patients.

In the College of Medicine, a scientific research discussion was held for the student of the Iraqi Council for Medical Specialization in pathology / pathological histology, which is considered as part of the requirements for obtaining a board certificate (PhD) in pathology for the board student Muntaha Kazem Hammadi, which bore the title:

((Histochemical expression of protein (cyclin D1) in prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia in a sample of Iraqi patients)).

The aim of the study is to find out the extent of this protein appearance in prostate cancer and its association with histological differentiation, perineural invasion, and some clinical variables such as the patient’s age and PSA level, and to emphasize the importance of using this protein as a diagnostic and prognostic marker for prostate cancer.

And one of the results of this thesis was that the protein Cyclin D1 can be used as an aid to distinguish between benign and malignant tumor of the prostate gland, as it is a potential marker indicating the aggressiveness of prostate cancer.

The thesis came out with recommendations:

  • Conducting a cohort study to follow up the fate of patients with prostate cancer who showed positive expression of this protein.

*Molecular studies are recommended to investigate Cyclin D1gen abnormalities in patients with prostate cancer

  • Procedure from the study to confirm the therapeutic value of CDKs inhibitors (such as Abemaciclib) in patients with prostate cancer.

The supervising committee recommended granting the researcher Muntaha Kazem Hammadi an honor rating.
