\Karbala University held a memorial service for the late Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Khamenei (may God have mercy on him), attended by the university president, Professor Sabah Wajid Ali, his assistants for administrative and academic affairs, Dr. Jassim al-Maamouri and Dr. Haider Mohammed, the head of the Karbala Academics Syndicate, Dr. Talib al-Awadi, and a number of deans, faculty members, staff, and students.
The service included eulogies emphasizing the importance of remembering influential figures in contemporary history and the ideas and experiences they left behind, which contributed to shaping a significant period in the region’s history.
In his address, University President Dr. Sabah Wajid said, “We gather today to commemorate the life of a man who left a profound mark on the history of his nation, a man who carried the concerns of his people and the issues of the Islamic world for decades: Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Khamenei (may God have mercy on him).”
He added, “The deceased, may God have mercy on him, was a leader throughout his career who combined religious thought with political action. He dedicated his life to defending the principles and values he believed in. He was known for his steadfastness and his influential presence in the events that the region witnessed over the past decades.”
He pointed out that his career was not merely about position or power, but rather a long journey of work, public speaking, writing, and guidance, during which he left his mark on thought, politics, and public life. He noted that “his name will remain present in the pages of modern history as part of an important era that shaped the region.”
