A dissertation in Karbala Medicine discusses the effect of melatonin on the hormones of women with polycystic ovary syndrome

The master’s thesis at the Faculty of Medicine of Karbala University discussed the relationship of encapsulated melatonin on the hormones of women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

The study presented by the researcher (Zaman Abdullah Ali), which carried the title “the effect of melatonin coated with nanopolymer on the hormones of women with polycystic ovary syndrome”, included

The study aimed to search for a new treatment for PCOS through the use of nanotechnology by synthesizing Melatonin@PLGA nanohydrogel and then evaluating the effect on gonadotropin hormone in Sera in women with PCOS. Determine the relationship between BMI and the characteristics of polycystic ovary syndrome. Identify the most effective signs that can predict insulin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome in the city of Karbala.

As the study concluded :

  1. The tests are to determine the properties of polymer-coated melatonin. It has since been proven that it is a nanohydrogel, has a hormone-inhibiting effect, which may provide a promising idea for the treatment of PCOS.
  2. Human body measurements such as LAP and VAL were higher in obese or overweight women in PCOS compared to women of normal weight, and predicted the development of insulin resistance in women of normal weight better.
  3. The hormones TG LDL, insulin resistance in the PCOS groups were related to body mass index.
