A teacher at the Faculty of Medicine obtains a patent from the World Intellectual Property Organization in Switzerland

Assistant Professor Dr. Zaid Mahdi Jaber Al-Obaidi from the Faculty of Medicine – University of Karbala obtained a patent from the World Intellectual Property Organization – Patent Cooperation Treaty (WIPOPCT) in Geneva – Switzerland, to enable him to manufacture a medicinal derivative using green chemistry by means of microwaves.
The patent included how to prepare the compound by increasing production and reducing time and solvents, in order to reduce the reaction cost to approximately 99%. This prepared compound is used as a basic material for the preparation of some compounds with inhibitory therapeutic properties for some types of cancer cell lines and as an anti-inflammatory in some studies on laboratory animals and others.
It should be noted that Al-Obaidi holds the title of inventor from the International Federation of Inventors’ Societies, making this patent the fifth in his credit (three local and two international).
