The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, announced the establishment of a new public university in Wasit and the strengthening of the developmental requirements of the governorates, as well as the enhancement of their educational environments and specialized programs.
This announcement was made during his speech at the opening of the First Scientific Forum in Wasit Governorate, where the Minister explained that the ministry has provided all the studied prerequisites to address the developmental requirements of all Iraqi governorates and to strengthen their educational environments. He pointed out the establishment of more than one hundred university formations at the level of universities, colleges, departments, branches, and institutes, in addition to prioritizing the specializations and programs that the community aspires to in the fields of medicine, engineering, technology, pure sciences, agriculture, veterinary medicine, administration, economics, and humanities and social sciences.
He added that the focus on this path required integrating workspaces and joint coordination with officials of the Iraqi governorates, their governments, and local councils, addressing challenges, and laying the direct path for developing universities and enabling them to achieve their goals over more than two years of ministerial responsibility.
For his part, the Governor of Wasit, Dr. Muhammad Jamil Al-Mayyahi, confirmed in his speech during the forum that higher education in Iraq is going through a distinguished phase, noting that the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, is the owner of pioneering achievements represented in the internationalization of education and attracting international students within the Study in Iraq program. The President of Wasit University, Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Aqabi, also pointed out the importance of the forum and the impact of the university in achieving development goals.
The activities of the First Scientific Forum in Wasit include scientific and research sessions that highlight the social and economic life of Wasit in historical eras, the movement of translation, culture, literature, and its most prominent scholars and celebrities.
