Karbala University College of Medicine Organizes a Seminar on Drugs: “The Hidden Cancer”

The College of Medicine at Karbala University, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific and educational seminar on addiction, which is a prevalent issue affecting society, whether it involves psychoactive substances or other forms of substance abuse.

The seminar aimed to address how to deal with students and support them to protect them from this phenomenon.

The seminar included several key topics:

  • Defining the phenomenon of addiction
  • Types of addiction
  • Existing treatments

The discussion also covered how addiction occurs, the prevalence of this phenomenon in Iraqi society, its causes, types, and risks to public health, and the prohibition of using such substances in Islamic law, citing evidence from Quranic verses.

The seminar was presented by:

  • Professor Dr. Amer Fadel Al-Haidari
  • Professor Dr. Ali Tarek Abdul Hassan

The seminar targeted the academic side, including university professors, staff, and all academic cadres, to increase health awareness.

Dr. Amer Al-Haidari stated: “The current phase requires intensifying seminars and workshops to increase awareness and vigilance against this hidden cancer that is destroying the youth of the future.”
