Karbala University College of Medicine participated in the 12th International Scientific Research Conference, held by Al-Nahrain University College of Medicine from April 15-16, 2024.
The research participation included three research papers that are parts of three master’s theses, two of which have been published in journals within the Scopus Q1 repositories. The other one concerns one of the important clinical markers E-Selectin and its importance in diagnosing types of myocardial infarction.
The abstracts of these papers, their titles and participants are published in the conference abstracts booklet on pages (63-64-65).
The participants praised these researches for bringing together several scientific disciplines and their applications in clinical chemistry research, namely nano-applications, gene expression, and types of biotechnologies used in the characterization of nanocomposites prepared from curcumin and curcumin by the method of
Thin Film Hydration
and the preparation of Neosome particle by the Ficoll method. The characterization of the nanoproducts using several techniques, including
- Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) to detect size and zeta potential.
- Scanning electron microscope (SEM) to detect shape and size of particles.
- Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to detect active group of nano particle.
- Atomic force microscope (AFM) to detect 3 D structure of particle
They were then utilized in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by following oxidants, antioxidants, inflammatory and anti-inflammatory functions in the niosome with several genes that were followed by real time-PCR.
Real Time-PCR.
The research contributions were made by graduate students in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at Karbala Medical College (Sara Nazim, Nisreen Ghalib, Saif Daihoud) under the supervision of Professor Dr. Fadel Jawad Al-Toameh and with the participation of Professor Dr. Hana Adai from the Faculty of Science at Kufa University, Assistant Professor Dr. Atheer Hamid Odah, and Instructor Dr. Ali Mohammed Kazim Al-Toameh.
