The Ministry of higher education and scientific research hosted the periodic meeting of the vocational education and training coordination working group (TVET CG) with the participation of representatives of UNESCO and a number of ministries.
The advisor of the Ministry, Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Attiyah, stressed that the Ministry of higher education and scientific research is working in effective partnership with international organizations and institutions and the European Union in strengthening infrastructure and responding to the requirements of sustainable development, pointing out that the ministry and its institutions have completed many projects that had a direct impact on the consolidation of the educational process, especially the Bologna Process and achieving the highest level of academic quality standards.
In this context, the head of the scientific supervision and Evaluation Authority, Dr. Salah al-Fatlawi, explained the importance of coordination between universities and specialized organizations in line with the project of developing technical and vocational education and training and aligning their programs with the national strategy for education and education in Iraq.
For his part, the chairman of the Higher Committee for the development of education in Iraq, Dr. Hamid Khalaf, stressed the need to measure the effectiveness of donor countries ‘ projects and programs and activate shared responsibility in enriching educational programs and projects by discussing the establishment of a coordinating committee with the participation of the Kurdistan region and international organizations.
For his part, the senior vice-chancellor for technical and vocational education and training at UNESCO, Mr. Tim Maizen, said that the organization is making clear efforts with the European Union to support the strategy of vocational education and training and to complete the work of steering committees dedicated to the development of this type of education in Iraq, as well as support programs of primary and higher studies and orientation towards field surveys to determine the future needs of the labor market.
The meeting included the introduction of the national strategy for education in Iraq (2022-2023), the introduction of the programs of UNESCO and other international organizations working with the Ministry of higher education and scientific research, as well as the review of coordination mechanisms between partners in the fields of education and vocational training in Iraq.
