A discussion of the higher diploma thesis of the student (Buraq Farhan Obaid Al-Nasrawi) took place in the College of Medicine, University of Karbala, as part of the requirements for obtaining a higher diploma in family and community medicine. The study was titled:
(Risk Factors of Secondary Infertility among Females Attending Outpatient Clinic at Obstetrics and Gynecology Teaching Hospital in Kerbela)
This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with secondary infertility in women who attend an infertility consultation at the Teaching Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology in Karbala.
The sample of the study included 400 patients suffering from secondary infertility who attended an infertility clinic in the holy city of Karbala for the purpose of treatment and follow-up.
The study found about 48% of the patients were using contraceptives for long periods, 24.7% of them used birth control pills for more than a year, while 12.3% of the patients used contraceptive needles for more than a year, as well as other infertility factors that had an important role in infertility. Secondary such as polycystic ovaries, blockage of the fallopian tubes, irregular menstruation. Abnormal vaginal secretions, uterine fibroids, diabetes, as well as those with chronic high blood pressure and other factors.
This study recommended the need to carry out planned health education programs to highlight the importance of contraceptive methods for women who frequent primary health care centers and hospitals about how to use contraceptives correctly and what are their complications if used for long periods without medical guidance.
After the student presented her research and discussed it by the discussion committee, the committee decided to accept the study, with a very good, high grade.
