The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Medicine, University of Karbala, organized a symposium on addiction and its individual and family effects, with the participation of a number of professors of our college, including the Associate Professor for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Corresponding to 12-29-2022.
The symposium dealt with the risk factors that make the individual vulnerable to falling into the trap of addiction, the most important of which is the insecure attachment that results from weak family ties, especially in childhood, the early years, as well as the nature of addiction and the conditions for achieving it, regardless of its authentication, which can be chemicals such as heroin, cocaine or Smoking, alcohol, or addiction to certain behaviors, such as shopping, video games, and gambling
While there were interventions from the participating brothers, asking their questions, discussing them, and enriching the topic of the symposium
The symposium came out with several recommendations, the most important of which are:
Allocating a section in the Center for Strategic Studies at our university for qualitative and quantitative (mixed) research, as well as surveys for early detection and education on everything related to this subject.
Appeal to the Ministry of Health to expedite the establishment of treatment and rehabilitation centers for drug users who wish to treat addiction, as is the case in Basra Governorate.
Allocating sums of money to encourage research and work in this field, in addition to printing folders and banners that can raise awareness of the magnitude of the problem.
