Publishing a local scientific research
The Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Abdel Reda Abu Tahin, published a scientific research entitled “Prevalence of Hand Eczema among Women Attending kerbala journal of pharmaceutical sciences” in Karbala Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (International Journal of Drug Delivery Technology).
The results of the research concluded that hand eczema, also called dermatitis of the hand, is a very common and widespread condition characterized by dermatitis, which occurs under the influence of external or internal factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the holy city of Karbala during the period from March 1 to July 31, 2017, in order to determine the prevalence of hand eczema among women aged (15-49) years, as well as to identify the causative factors and related cases of hand eczema. A sample of 300 women who visited 4 primary health care centers in Karbala city were selected. Where a direct interview was conducted with them using a special questionnaire prepared for the purpose of the study. The women were then examined to evaluate cases of dermatitis on the hands. The prevalence of hand eczema was high (77.3%), and the incidence was more among single women (94.4%) and in the younger age group (15-24) years (86.4%). Most of the cases affected both hands (87.1%). Coarseness was the most frequent clinical symptom (95.7%). While the most common causative factors were the use of soaps and detergents (94%). The most common effect of hand eczema was psychological (71.6%). From this we infer that hand eczema is a common condition among women in Karbala. Furthermore, most of the women in the sample did not use any preventive measures and were not evaluated or treated for hand eczema.
