Muhannad Yahya Idris, a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Karbala, and Head of Physiology Branch, received a certificate of appreciation for his participation in the first training course in electroencephalography entitled (EEG iceberg simplified: from basics to advanced), which was organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Babylon Branch. Physiology and Medical Physics, with the participation of a number of doctors specializing in clinical neurophysiology from various Iraqi governorates.
The first day of the course included two sessions that included four lectures and a practical demonstration. The first lecture dealt with an introduction to the history of electroencephalography and the basics of its work.
This was followed by a lecture on the methods of recording and studying brain waves and how to locate pathological waves on the different lobes of the brain.
While the third lecture contained the most important terms used in electroencephalography and how to identify them and diagnose some pathological electrical waves and signals.
The second session included a lecture that dealt with methods of identifying and diagnosing the type of epilepsy, as well as the basics of video EEG and its importance in diagnosing various brain diseases.
The last lecture included a live demonstration of the method of attaching electrodes, preparing the examination site on the patient’s head, and the correct method for recording electrical brain waves.
As for the second day of the training course, three direct presentations were presented in an interactive format. The first was (about the unsatisfactory variables in the EEG that all specialists should know to avoid considering them as pathological variables and thus giving an inaccurate diagnosis).
This was followed by a presentation (on the epilepsy variables in the adult EEG and how to distinguish and recognize them).
Then another presentation (on the epileptic changes of the EEG of children and their relationship to various brain diseases and how to diagnose them accurately).
Finally, there was an exam for the participants in order to identify the extent to which they benefited from the information presented in the course, over two consecutive days, and the distribution of participation certificates to the participants in the course, in addition to presenting a certificate of appreciation to the lecturers.
