The College of Medicine – University of Karbala was present at the Fourth International Conference and the Twelfth National Conference on Biotechnology, which was held at the University of Tehran – Iran for the period from 22-24 August 2021 with three research papers on the Corona pandemic, in which: A. Dr.. Fadel Jawad Al Tohme – Prof. Dr.. Riyad Mohi Al-Sayegh and graduate student Suzan Halim Kamel, and the research tagged: Molecular Basis of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme-2 Receptors in Severe Iraqi Patients with Covid-19 Pandemic and its Relationships with Smoking, which was delivered on August 23, 2021, which demonstrated the importance of conducting molecular studies of serum enzymes. In pandemic patients, the research concluded that nicotine reduces the effect of corona infection because the protein receptors of the angiotensin converting enzyme are modified by nicotine in cigarettes, and therefore the virus does not recognize it, which leads to a decrease in the infection of smokers in the pandemic, in addition to obtaining important results by measuring many of the Biochemical parameters and conducting molecular studies for these recipients, which were chosen as a research to be presented at the conference. As for the second research, which was shared as a poster, it was with the participation of: a. Dr.. Fadel Jawad Al Tohme – Prof. Dr.. Riyad Mohi Al-Sayegh and graduate student Hawra Fadel Abbas and the research tagged: Calprotectin and Cystatin C Levels as Predicting Biomarkers of Severe Covid-19 of Iraqi Pandemic and their Correlations with Kidney Injury Molecule-1, which is related to the follow-up of biochemical parameters in pandemic patients suffering from a disease Kidney. The third research, tagged: Serum Level of Vitamin K as Predicts Mortality in Iraqi COVID-19 Patients, which is related to the follow-up of some factors related to blood clotting and their antidote in the pandemic serum, was jointly conducted by: a. Dr.. Fadel Jawad Al Tohme and graduate student Hanin Saeed Al-Musawi from the College of Medicine – University of Karbala, in addition to Prof. Dr. Hana Adai Ali Al-Sultani from the College of Science – University of Kufa. The participation of this research was as a poster with hundreds of researches that participated in the conference, most of which were in the form of a poster. This conference is one of the most important international conferences in the continent of Asia, in which dozens of researchers from important international universities participate. It is held annually at the University of Tehran. Researchers from our college are keen to participate in it to present their research achievements in the field of molecular studies.
