A thesis at the University of Karbala looking for early detection of a disorder in amino acid metabolism by thin layer chromatography method.

The master’s thesis at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Karbala, discussed the disturbance in the metabolism of amino acids in sick children. And the introduction of methods for separating 20 standard amino acids by different strategies based on silica gel in thin layer chromatography, which may be effective for early detection of the disorder in the metabolism of amino acids in children. amino acid) for the student (Mona Ali Hussein) analysis of 20 standard amino acids on the thin layer based on distinct and different strategies, firstly calculating the retention factor for each amino acid for ten readings, secondly calculating the average and arithmetic rate of the retention factor for each amino acid for ten readings, and finally the amino acids were analyzed Standard amino acids were divided into groups based on the above strategies due to the similarity of some amino acids in retention factor, shape and color. Only three methods were used to determine amino acids in serum and urine samples in sick children. The results of the study first showed disturbances Metabolic metabolism is caused by a genetic defect with 87% due to consanguineous marriage, 52% due to family history and 52% due to the history of affected brothers Second: Patient samples were analyzed to detect any disorder in amino acid metabolism using the thin layer in a manner similar to standard amino acid analysis at the same time. In order to confirm the results of the thin layer chromatography, samples of the patients’ samples were sent to Amman for examination by tandem mass spectrometry. The results of Amman came back after a month to confirm the results of the thin layer, which is that none of the patients whose samples were analyzed during the study period had any disorder in the metabolism of amino acids .
