University of Karbala Hosts a Discussion Seminar on the New Scientific Promotion Instructions Project

The University of Karbala hosted a discussion seminar to discuss the new scientific promotion instructions project scheduled to be adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The seminar, organized by the Karbala branch of the Academics Syndicate in cooperation with the Faculty of Law, was attended by the university president, Professor Sabah Wajid Ali, and his deputies for administrative and scientific affairs, Professor Jassim Aidan Al-Mamouri and Professor Haider Muhammad Imran, in addition to the head of the Academics Syndicate branch, Dr. Munir Al-Daami, and a member of the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee, Dr. Firas Al-Muslimawi, along with several deans, professors, and university staff.

During his intervention, Al-Muslimawi mentioned that “the project will undergo many amendments, including exempting humanities from the (h-index) indicator,” noting that “the new instructions will be postponed and will not come into effect at present, contrary to what the media has reported.”

Al-Muslimawi added that the Parliamentary Education Committee is proceeding with the necessary amendments to the project to serve the educational process and close the doors to commercial journals.

For his part, the university’s deputy for scientific affairs, Dr. Haider Muhammad Imran, explained that “the financial challenge is one of the most prominent challenges facing the faculty members, in addition to the lack of necessary laboratories that can be relied upon in research.”

Imran emphasized the importance of enhancing the status of local scientific journals that raise the university’s global ranking.
