A message from Karbala Medicine discusses the evaluation of premarital examinations in Karbala Governorate

The message of family medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the College of Medicine at the University of Karbala discussed the evaluation of the premarital examination program in Karbala Governorate, where the message submitted by the researcher (Samia Ali Hussein) was entitled “Evaluation of the Premarital Examination Program in Karbala Governorate”

The study aimed to determine the program’s ability to detect carriers of genetic diseases such as thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and infectious diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, and HIV.

The percentage of partners who were examined was (102512), (2%) of whom had anemia, (50.6%) of whom had anemia, (2.2%) of whom had anemia, with no difference between the sexes in these diseases. Only 4 cases of HIV infection were detected with no difference between the sexes, while the percentage of syphilis infection was (44) cases, most of whom were males. The percentage of hepatitis B infection was (97) cases, with a significant increase in 2023, and most of the cases were among males. The percentage of hepatitis C infection was (35) cases, with no difference between the sexes.
