The College of Medicine, University of Karbala, organized a scientific training course entitled “Dialectical Behavioral Therapy” in cooperation with the Psychological and Educational Counseling Unit at the college.
The course aimed to introduce participants to the importance of dialectical behavioral therapy, as it is considered one of the most important schools of psychotherapy concerned with treating borderline personality and impulsive behavior in general, and suicide in particular. This therapeutic school is considered the third wave in the development of psychotherapy, as it combines the pragmatic philosophy of the West with spiritual philosophy. Between striving for action and change, and between faith, acceptance and surrender.
The course included many and varied topics, including the skills the client needs to achieve emotional and mood stability, in addition to mental alertness and effective interpersonal relationships, in addition to other skills that include regulating emotions and accepting suffering.
The course concluded with recommendations to include these skills in the psychological counseling course in addition to the basics of medicine course.
