A board-certified dissertation was discussed at the College of Medicine, University of Karbala, in the Family and Community Medicine branch, by student Noura Aref Abdul Ali. Supervised by Professor Dr. Ali Abdul-Redha Abu Tahin, the dissertation, part of rigorous scientific research and collaborative efforts between educational and health institutions, was submitted to the Iraqi Board for Medical Specialties\/Family and Community Medicine branch. The dissertation, titled \u201cBullying and its Relationship to Social Anxiety among Intermediate School Students in the Holy City of Karbala,\u201d aimed to measure the prevalence of bullying patterns among adolescents, assess their levels of social anxiety, and determine the nature of the relationship between the two. The researcher employed a descriptive cross-sectional approach, utilizing a randomly selected sample of 600 male and female students from six public intermediate schools in the governorate during the 2024-2025 academic year. Standardized international measurement tools (OBVQ) and (SAS-A) were used for the study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dissertation was submitted as part of the Iraqi Board for Medical Specialties\/Family and Community Medicine program. The researcher presented a number of important statistical indicators that emerged from the study, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study recorded that 74.5% of participating students had experienced bullying, with verbal and relational bullying being the most prevalent types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results showed higher levels of anxiety among female students and second-year middle school students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was found that students suffering from high levels of social anxiety are the most vulnerable to being targeted by bullies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study confirmed that bullying represents a genuine \u201cpublic health problem\u201d affecting approximately three-quarters of students in this critical age group in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research was commended by the discussion committee for its objectivity and its presentation of up-to-date field data that serves the Karbala community and contributes to the development of school mental health strategies in Iraq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
