The College of Medicine at the University of Karbala held an educational and awareness seminar on (the psychological and social dimensions of violence against women) as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls represents the beginning of a 16-day campaign to combat violence against women and girls, which starts on November 25 and ends on December 10.
The 2024 campaign, whose slogan is: Every 10 minutes a woman is killed, aims to draw attention to the alarming rise in violence against women to revive commitments and call for accountability and action by decision-makers to reduce this phenomenon and address its psychological and social consequences.
The seminar aimed to study the causes and motives of the phenomenon of violence and its psychological and social consequences.
The seminar included a discussion of the phenomenon of violence against women, which has become a global phenomenon that all societies suffer from, including Arab society. The rate of violence against women has increased in the region in recent years in light of the conditions of security instability and conflicts in a number of countries.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Rafah Mahdi Al-Hakim (Head of the Family Guidance and Counseling Authority at the Al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine).

Weam Ali said: Based on the above, the Islamic religion 1400 years ago was and still is opposed to violence against women, and God has honored women and raised their status and position and given them their rights in the most complete and wise manner, and the status of women in Islamic society exceeds what they have achieved today in terms of progress and development in developed countries.
